weekend in photographs 6.18.12

whew. this weekend was a lazy one (i feel like i’m saying that a lot here lately). i’ve been feeling a little under the weather, so i’ve been taking it easy. my parents came and spent a few days with us and we spent sunday with casey’s family just hanging around the house. next weekend is going to have to have more excitement or i may just go crazy… :)

here a few photos from the weekend … enjoy!

tyson was a little overexcited to see ‘poppy’.
p.s. my daddy doesn’t always look that ferocious. i just caught him in an awkward moment :)

my mom always gifts each pup with a mt. dew bottle while she’s visiting. as you can see, it’s a highlight for them. i swear, i give them toys – they’re just caffeine fiends i guess (wonder where they get that….)

harley was so excited he fell over with joy. yes, he did turn up the bottle to see if there was any left. no, there wasn’t. i’m not that terrible of a puppy parent. :)

this is from sunday. that’s three generations of casey’s family crammed on one golf-cart – with a grill. it was a good day.

this is a silly picture, and yes he is taking his shirt off (woot) but i just had to post it because i love it so much. this is the first photo i’ve taken of him since he’s been sick that he actually approves of. doesn’t he look healthier (look at those arms!)?

how was your weekend? i’d love to see your photos, just put the link in the comments section and i’ll check it out!

#photoadayjune week 2

well, here it is. week 2 of the #photoadayjune challenge. you can find my photos daily on twitter and instagram and i’ll be posting weekly recaps here on the blog.

i have to say, i honestly wasn’t loving the challenge this week. i’m not 100% sure if it was the prompts or just my frame of mind – but i just couldn’t get into it. most of them didn’t actually find their way to my twitter or instagram. apologies.

(i’m always torn as to whether or not this challenge should be used as a way to document my life or as ‘artsy’/ normally wouldn’t take them shots. currently, it’s a mix of both.)

oh well. for better or for worse, here’s week 2. enjoy!

day five: sign; this is a truck we found for sale (obviously) a while back. i loved the truck, the sign was borderline hideous.

day six: hat; (confession – this pic is OLD. she’s not nearly so little now but still just as cute). she loved her hello kitty hat.

day seven: drink; my daily dose of diet coke. fun fat: when i put this on instagram, the official diet coke page “liked” it. cool!

day eight: 6 o’clock; back in the studio, trimming pots.

day nine: your view today; it was a lazy lazy day and after casey left for work, i sat on the bed and played in my craft paper supply for hours. exciting, huh?

day ten: the best bit of my weekend; do you have to ask? it’s always spending time with casey. (i’ve recently dubbed him boo-boo and i have no idea why. i’m not sure if he appreciates it, but he’s adjusting. so if you hear me refer to ‘boo-boo’ here, it’s not a hot new man – just the same hot man i married :)

day eleven: door; possibly the least creative photo i’ve ever taken.

what do you think? is there something you would have done differently with the prompts?

thanks for following my #photoaday posts here on my little blog! i love reading the sweet comments you leave and i hope that some of you will join me in the challenge!

hugs.

the weekend in photographs 6.11.12

i feel like this weekend lasted forever, not that i’m complaining. which, now that i’m taking full advantage of our summer flex hours and have mondays off – it really does last a little longer.

i spent friday night in the studio for a bit (part of my new goal to go more often) then went to a show opening with my friend alyssa. the show was pretty awesome – featuring a HUGE collection of bottletree concert posters from throughout the years. bottletree is this adorable little venue downtown that has live music almost every night of the week – so of course they brought live music with them to the opening. win-win friday night.

saturday was a super lazy day. spent the morning with c and the pups and then crafted my little heart out saturday night. i recently discovered emily over at 52 mantels and her blog inspired me to get going on another themed mantel. i went hard at it for fall and christmas, but since then my mantel has been sorely lacking.

sunday, we visited family and i read a WHOLE book while casey worked on the mustang again.

so here you go, a weekend in photos. enjoy!

friday night in the studio = two new jars
i’m really attracted to this shape, for some reason.

i really like their logo. literal, but well played.

the show was made up of 3 large walls covered solid with posters, as well as three more walls featuring framed prints. this was my favorite wall. most of these were cut+paste or handdrawn and i loved that they included them even though they weren’t the final editions.

this is a small portion of the biggest wall, about 1/4th – so you get an idea of how many posters there were.

second favorite wall – these were screenprinted. love that Sloss one.

is there anything better than outdoor concerts in the summer. also, there might have been craft beer. yum.

saturday morning was lazy, for everyone. i didn’t think he was comfortable but he stayed asleep this way for almost an hour.

casey and harley some quality time after his monthly medicine date. harley was focused on the bacon that was leftover on the stove, he’s no dummy.

and here’s casey with his long-distance baby. she can’t wait for us to move somewhere that allows inside pets so she can come live with us. this is the only picture i pulled my head out of a book to snap on sunday.

how was your weekend?

i’d love to see your photos if you posted any – just leave me a link in the comments section and I’ll pop over and check them out!

the weekend in photographs 6.4.12

this was a fairly uneventful weekend. i opted to spend my friday night in, since i’d been sick throughout the week. no fun, considering there were lots of great events in town over the weekend. so, while my friends were beer-tent hopping at Birmingham’s Brewfest, i was the old lady at home arranging flowers. i just wasn’t sure about drinking in the heat when i’d only been eating solid food for a couple of days. maybe next year my tummy will cooperate.

saturday, i went to visit my mom and check on a project we’ve been working on. part of the big announcement i was talking about in my june goals post. (i’m not quite ready to announce yet, but trust me … it’s great news).

sunday, we spent the day at C’s parent’s place and i parked myself on a sun-lounger while he and his cousin did manly things like swapping out the motors in a couple of broken-down mustangs he’s had forever. i never thought i would see the day when he made one working car out of the two, but it seems we’re making progress.

anyhow, here are a few photos of the weekend. enjoy!

i was given a bouquet of flowers by one of the sweet ladies at work that i’ve been working on a project for. they were beautiful, but i just wasn’t feeling the stuck randomly in a vase look. so i channeled my inner martha stewart and jazzed them up a bit with a vase i had at home.

not bad for beginner’s luck, huh? also, please don’t judge me for my lack of curtains. that is the oddest window and so hard to dress.

this was my saturday. i slapped on my cowboy boots and trotted around giving orders. no, i wasn’t driving that thing. not for lack of trying though :)

sunday fun – motor swap on a 1998-ish mustang.

pretty much all i was good for was hovering and taking pictures. i stuck around for a few ‘hand-me-that’s’ and then i got bored.

so i went inside to play with these cute kiddos. i love the look on his face in this one.

she was giving roxie water, isn’t it precious?

this is casey’s other baby – sweet roxie. she prefers to stay at his parent’s and play with the kids – our monsters aren’t her cup of tea. she’s always happy to see him, though.

they didn’t let a little bit of rain stop them. i like to refer to this as redneck ingenuity. :) where there’s a will, there’s a way.

a confused look on the face of the crane operator can’t be good, right?

new motor going in …

almost there. i can’t believe i didn’t get a final after shot – it kind of got dark. but you get the idea, right?

what did you do this weekend?

i’d love to see your photos if you posted any – just leave me a link in the comments section and I’ll pop over and check them out!

Happy Monday!

#photoadaymay week 4

here is week four of the #photoadaymay series. you can find my photos daily on twitter and instagram and i’ll be posting weekly recaps here on the blog.

i’m still loving this challenge. i can’t wait until i’ve acquired enough photos to make a poster/book/whatever. this week, fat mum slim released the june list – i think the lists are getting better every month!

below are my photos for the fourth week of may. enjoy!

day 23: pink; the blanket my sister made me for christmas a few years back. great for curling up on the couch and crashing until casey makes it home.

day 23: technology; this is my set-up at work. two screens=more production, right? riiiighhhht …

day 24: something new; this is my new summer purse, purchased on my shopping spree last week. it’s cute. it’s tiny. it was a steal at $16 bucks. thank you, Ross!

day 25: unusual; i had to downsize my keyring to fit in the new tiny purse. it’s unusual for me to have more keys than keyrings. :)

day 26: 12 o’clock; it’s tyson’s naptime. heck, he naps all the time. but i always seem to catch him midday, paws up, and smiling.

day 27: something sweet; my adorable niece, kinsley. as long as she stays tiny and cute, i can procrastinate bringing more kids into casey’s family. :)

day 28: the weather today; the weather all weekend was beautiful but HOT. big white puffy clouds didn’t provide much relief from the heat, but they sure were pretty.

thanks for following my #photoaday posts here on my little blog! i love reading the sweet comments you leave and i hope that some of you will join me in the challenge!

hugs.

the weekend in photographs 5.28.12

i hope everyone had a fabulous (long) weekend. mine was great for the most part … until the sickness took over. unfortunately, while most of you were enjoying your memorial day treats, this girl was suffering on the couch. the first bite of real food hit my mouth around eleven this morning – still no fun.

fortunately, i did get to enjoy a couple days with family, friends, and casey before i became bedridden. :)

kicked off the weekend early on friday with a yummy strawberry sundae at costco with my friend alyssa. a steal at $1.49. yummy!
also bought a couple of new books at a great used bookstore near my house. more on that later.

saturday morning casey went and bought a truck. don’t get me wrong, i was totally against spending the money at this point – but it’s totally worth it to see him so happy. after the rough few weeks he’s had it’s nice to see him smile. (not smiling here, unfortunately. traffic on saturday was killer).

saturday night, we hit the fair in our little home town with a couple of old friends. we very rarely get time off to go home on a saturday, so it was really nice to get out and about. btw, the ferris wheel was a phoney. i can’t get on board for a fair without a legitimate ferris wheel … this one was little baskets built for four that leaned precariously when two sat on one side. still fun, though.

me and my friend laura. this was shortly before i almost broke a rib on the himalayan. either i’m getting old or these rides are getting faster/more dangerous. we were both so sore on sunday morning but in total agreement it will happen again soon!

like a true man, my husband takes his bumper cars seriously. this photo was taken shortly before he slammed into an unsuspecting 10 year old. (i kid, i totally kid. but he was pretty serious about it.)

you can see what i mean about the phoney ferris wheel here. these are our friends laura and murray. aren’t they sweet? :)

tyson was cross eyed with happiness because he got so much attention this weekend.

just look at that face!

isn’t he so cute doing his man thing? (i always get stuck with the weed eating) in fact, that was the last thing we did before i got sick … do you think i can use that as an excuse to remove myself from future yardwork? nah, i didn’t think so either.

how was your weekend?!

#photoadaymay week 3

here is week three of the #photoadaymay series. you can find my photos daily on twitter and instagram and i’ll be posting weekly recaps here on the blog.

for some reason, it’s getting a little harder to keep up these days. the weekends, mostly – which is strange because i take the most photos on the weekends. this week was a little better than last, but i must find more enthusiasm!

below are my photos for the third week of may. enjoy!

day 15: love; these three boys are the loves of my life. they bring me so much happiness, just looking at their precious faces. and the best part is, they love me too! :)

day 16: what you’re reading; i’m sure i won’t be the first to say that i think tina fey is amazing. this quote from her about body image is pretty spot on, right?

day 17: snack; actually, this banana ending up serving as lunch too. a total bad idea, i know, but it was a busy week.

day 18: something you made; a mid-session photo of the weekend’s studio labors. the odd looking one became a little gourd bird house. and only a few of those lids made the cut.

day 19: a favorite place; i’m sure you got my drift yesterday when i told you how much i LOVED being in the studio again. it’s a great place to relieve some stress. especially since i’ve been slacking on my running :)

day 20: something you can’t live without; i never realized that it would be possible to love someone with my whole heart. God certainly knew what he was doing when he blessed me with this man – he even puts up with my crazy! :)

day 21: where i stand; you know – i really wanted to do a different play on this – where i stand beliefs-wise instead of just looking down. but a whole day spent with the sweet man in the photo above changed my mind.

thanks for following my #photoaday posts here on my little blog! i love reading the sweet comments you leave and i hope that some of you will join me in the challenge!

hugs.

#photoadaymay week two

here is week two of the #photoadaymay series. you can find my photos daily on twitter and instagram and i’ll be posting weekly recaps here on the blog. i’m still enjoying this challenge, although this week i will admit i slacked off for a few days and then had to play catch up. :)

below are my photos for the second week of may. enjoy!

day 8: a smell you adore; chocolate chip cookies, fresh from the oven. obviously, i adored the taste as well. yum!

day 9: something you do everyday; love this sweet sweet man. i’m so very blessed to have him to love and take care of me.

day 10: a favorite word; fun. this is one of the days i fell behind on – i actually have lots of words i like but fun seemed appropriate since that’s what i was having when i missed the day!

day 11: kitchen; another day i missed, not that i would show you my messy little rental kitchen anyhow :) this is a set of pottery i would LOVE to have/make for my own one day.

day 12: something that makes you happy; what’s not happy about a giant inflateable duck?! well, actually … spending time with my wonderful parents. the only thing missing this day was casey.

day 13: mum/mom; this is my mom. she’s my biggest fan and one of my best friends. she would also kill me if she knew i was posting photos of her, but she’ll get over it :)

day 14: grass; also, i realized that i post 1 billion photos of tyson on instagram/facebook/twitter – so here’s one of my sweet little harley. he looks like he’s on a very important mission here, right?

thanks for following my #photoaday posts here on my little blog! i love reading the sweet comments you leave and i hope that some of you will join me in the challenge!

twenty-three in 2k12: a belated birthday post

since my return to the blogging world, i’ve been seeing this sort of goal setting yearly lists in quite a few places. the best and most inspiring example is elise’s 27 materials. since my birthday was last week, it seemed like as good a time as any to start a little list of my own. the goal is to show a bit of self discipline and actually make a few of the ideas i have in my head a reality. i’m very often guilty of coming up with an idea and then either not writing it down and losing it or just never starting. so i’m going to write my list here, and use the blog as a way to hold myself accountable. twenty-three is the number i chose. partly because i just turned twenty three and partly because the way i figure it, i can do two projects a month and have them all completed by my twenty-fourth birthday. this list is a combination of projects, goals, and a few dreams. some of these will be ongoing – hopefully long after twenty-four comes and goes.

so, here it goes …

1. create a book; i don’t want to be very specific here, except that it must have content. i’ve seen quite a few around that i like, but i want to come up with something that is unique to me.

2. complete a large painting; i’ve always dabbled in painting, since the one class i took in college, but never anything significant. i have a large canvas just hanging out in the back of my closet that i’ve been avoiding for quite some time that deserves some paint.

3. run a 5k; i’ve posted here a few times about trying to get in shape and the 5k that i’ve signed up for. my goal is to feel confident about running the race. it’s a race that’s more about having fun and less about time, even if that means walking, but i would like to make the choice myself – not have it determined by my physical shape.

4. make a wreath (or three); i made a fall wreath and a christmas wreath last year but then stopped. i have a particular one in mind that i want to make for the summer.

5. make something using old fence/house wood; we have quite a lot of scrap things lying around from the house we used to live in. i really want to make something fantastic from some of it that we can put in our future house, to remind us of where we began.

6. buy a home; i know this isn’t a goal that i can particularly control, but it’s still on the list for this year. we’ve been looking and haven’t found the perfect place yet, but hope to by the beginning of 2013.

7. set monthly goals, and keep them; i’ve already completed my goals for the month of may, and i’m doing well with them so far. i’ve never been one that’s good with getting things done, so perhaps if i break it down into months it won’t be as overwhelming.

8. start a garden; again, can’t be too specific because i’m not sure how this house search will play out. i would be quite happy if i could just have a mini potted plant garden.

9. take more photos; i’ve been doing the #photoaday monthly series since mid-april. my goal is by my next birthday to have completed a year of them and make them into something fabulous.

10. create a cookbook; i have hundreds of recipes that were my grandmothers, i would LOVE to cook my way through them and make a cookbook of my favorites.

11. document casey’s journey with diabetes; this sounds like a strange thing, but the real goal is to learn as much as possible about the condition and how to manage it. i think the best way to do it may be through a scrapbook or journal …

12. do something with the ceramic things i have in storage; some of them aren’t worth much – very basic beginner stuff. i may break it down and make something else out of it. as for the better stuff, i love it – but i just don’t have room for it all. maybe a pop-up shop or a temporary etsy shop?

13. make jewelry; i have so many jewelry and beading supplies that need to be put to good use.

14. eliminate clutter; i’ve already had a pretty good clean-out, but it’s time to get serious. i either need to make things out of all the supplies i’ve gathered or get rid of them.

15. learn to sew; casey’s mom bought me a sewing machine the first year we were together – it’s high time i learned to use it :)

16. refinish my china cabinet; i also have a china cabinet given to me by my grandmother. it’s in our garage and in need of some serious love.

17. create some wall art; when we moved into our rental, the walls stayed bare for months. i’m determined not to let that happen when we move into a real house.

18. learn to let go; this is another fairly vague one – but something i need to do very badly. it may mean taking up yoga or reading more, who knows what – i just need something to alleviate some of the stress in my life.

19. 100 ideas, well … 50; complete one of keri smith’s 100 ideas a week. this is a stretch, but i hope i can stick to it!

20. grow the blog; i’ve just started again and a little timid, but i really do want to grow my readership and be involved in the blogging world. maybe this year i will be brave enough for a few blog swaps and sponsors.

21. begin working on my own studio; i have a degree in design, but fell in love with ceramics in college. casey promised me that when we eventually owned our own home and got on our feet we could start gathering things to set up a real studio for me.

22. read twelve NEW books; i’m guilty of picking up a cheesy romance i’ve read one million times and reading it in two days, but not very often do i go buy (or check-out) and read a new book. the goal is to read one a month and blog a review here.

23. make gifts; all too often i’m caught at the last minute and rush out to buy something mundane for a birthday or christmas present. the goal is to make more gifts than i buy this year.

so, there they are. i’m counting on this blog and my sweet little readers to keep me accountable. don’t let me down. :)

hugs.

#photoadaymay week one

here is week one of my first full month of the #photoaday series. you can find my photos daily on twitter and instagram and i’ll be posting weekly recaps here on the blog. i’m really enjoying this challenge and seriously considering turning all of my photos into some sort of book at the end of the year. so far i’ve been fairly successful at keeping up. i’ve only fell behind once, this weekend, when things were tough. below are my photos for the first week of may. enjoy!

day 1: peace; this is the drive home to my parent’s house. i have driven this route so many times i could do it with my eyes closed. being on this road always means home to me, and that brings me peace.

day 2: skyline; i love the way the clouds look here, too bad that pesky powerpole is intruding.

day 3: something you wore; this was my birthday outfit, complete with the little “it’s my birthday” ribbon i was given at work. yes, i wore it all day. :)

day 4: fun; VIP ticket to the crawfish boil from my wonderful friend alyssa and an antique crown royal flask from one of our favorite trinket shops.

day 5: bird; hm, perhaps a little morbid – but there was chicken in my cinco de mayo creation. real birds don’t come in my yard because of the little monsters. (btw, this was totally yummy – maybe i’ll post a recipe later!)

day 6: you; this is me at my mom’s about to blow out the candles (two days late) and sweet casey is being a little creepy.

day 7: someone who inspires you; my daddy. he’s getting ear licks from tyson here. i wanted to include my mom as well, but she’s not too keen on having her photo taken. :)

Sweet Shot Day

by the way … the giant birthday post is still coming. i was going to write it this weekend, but, ya know…
